Truth
by David Morsey
HOW CAN I KNOW?
The oldest question;
The oldest lure;
The oldest test in the world.
The quest for it tipped the scale,
Evolving an endless chain of events
That has brought mankind
To the brink of destruction.
"The tree of the knowledge of good and evil"--
How could that be bad?
"Eve saw that it was desirable to make her wise"--
She wanted to know.
Created in the image of God,
It is at once human and Divine
To pursue knowledge.
It is not the quest for knowledge that is suspect;
It is the source.
It is not knowledge per se;
It is the content.
Eve took her knowledge from the "Deceiver."
The problem with knowledge is
Sorting out the true from the false.
Thousands of years later,
Phillip wanted to know.
In response to his--"How can we know?"--
Jesus replied, "I am the way, the truth, and the life."
The three most fundamental questions--
What is life? What is truth?
Where are we going?
The one answer basic to all--Jesus Christ.
How can a person be the answer?
Because this Person is Spirit.
The nature of God is Spirit.
God, the Eternal Spirit is the source
Of all the energy in the universe.
Christ is the projected reality of God.
It is by His Spirit implanted in us
That we humans are lifted
To join the Spirit of God forever.
When we have taken Christ within us,
We too become "spirit" in our essential being.
To the query, "How do we know?"
Christ replies, "You know because I am in you.
I am the truth."
We know in our spirits
More than our human minds can comprehend.
"Now we see through the glass darkly;
Then shall we know as we are known." (I Corinthians 13:12)
So how do we know?
We know because "the Spirit of Truth is in us."
BUT WHAT IS TRUTH?
The Greek word--alêtheia--means "genuine" or "real."
Thus, truth is genuineness expressed--
The verbalization of reality.
Christ the Logos is the revelation of all that is real--
God expressed in human terms.
Through Christ, that reality is within our spirits,
But imperfectly expressed in human minds.
So how do we know?
By possessing Christ within us.
What do we know?--All that is real.
Everything of human knowledge
Is but a shadow of the true reality.
It is imperfect--often illusory.
Many kinds of earthly knowledge
Are needed to function in this world.
This is what we may call "functional truth."
It is adequate, but not absolute.
Only in our spirits, and only as Christ is there,
Do we have absolute truth or reality.
The presence of Christ within us is also "the way."
Phillip said, "We do not even know where you are going.
How can we know the way?"
Jesus responded, "I am the Way."
It is not a place to travel to;
It is a state of being to enter into.
How do I get to God?
You don't--He gets to you.
How? By entering your spirit.
How can I get nearer to Him?
How can He be nearer than in your spirit?
Christ is the way because He joins our spirits to God.
And the presence of Christ within
Brings also the reality of life within.
But, what is life?
Christ is life--genuine life.
As the Creator of all things,
He is the source of all life--
"In Him was life,
And the life was the light of men."
Apart from Christ there is no life.
All is death--man mortified by the fall.
He that is without Christ is "dead while he liveth."
He has a momentary earthly existence...
And then darkness forever.
Nicodemus, perplexed by the meaning of "spirit,"
Inquired, "How can these things be--"
Jesus said, "The Spirit is like the wind--
A powerful force, but unseen by human eyes."
The essence of all life is energy.
The source of all energy is God.
The expression of that energy
Is God projected to man.
The form of that projection
Is Christ the Logos--
The radiation of Divine Glory.
Possessing Christ, we possess eternal life--
The endless reality of the Divine Being.
The moment the Spirit of Christ enters our spirits,
We partake of the Divine nature forever.
Paul said, "Lay hold on eternal life."
This is reality; this is truth.
Without Christ there is no reality.
Without reality there is no truth.
Without energy there is no life.
Without God there is no energy.
Without Christ there is no way
For humans to have His energy.
Lay hold of eternal life now!
Lay hold of the energy of God, now!
Lay hold of the Spirit of Christ, now!
You will have that energy.
You will have all that is real.
You will know what life is.
You will know the way to God.
YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH.
